TikTok Shop settlement report: calculate what you actually keep

The settlement export explains platform cash movements. Product and operating costs still have to be added before the result becomes contribution.

A TikTok Shop settlement report explains how completed orders turned into money in your seller balance. It does not calculate final business profit. Start with the SKU-level Order details sheet, preserve TikTok's signed revenue and fee lines, then subtract the costs that never appear in the report: product cost, outside fulfilment, packaging, samples, payroll and any advertising billed elsewhere. That bridge from settlement to contribution is what shows whether a growing product is actually making money.

The short version

  • The US settlement report is organized by settlement date, not order date; orders that have not settled remain in Finance > On hold.
  • TikTok defines Total settlement amount as Net sales + Shipping + Fees + Adjustments, with deductions already shown as negative values.
  • Settlement is not profit. Add product, fulfilment, advertising, sample and return costs from the same order scope before judging a SKU or creator.

Download the report that follows the money

In Seller Center, go to Finances, then Statements or Payouts, choose Export and download the file from Export History. TikTok's US guide says the workbook contains five sheets. The Order details sheet is the useful starting point because it records settlement activity at SKU level rather than showing only a payout total.

The file is settlement-based. An order appears after it meets TikTok's settlement rules, not simply because a buyer placed it. Orders still waiting are shown under Finance > On hold. That timing difference is the first reason a daily GMV chart will not match a bank deposit.

GMV, net sales, settlement, payout and profit are different numbers

Use each metric for the question it actually answers.

GMVValue attributed to commerce activity under the selected dashboard definitionCash received or profit
Net salesGross product sales adjusted for refunds and seller-funded discountsAll platform and operating costs
Settlement amountNet sales plus signed shipping, fee and adjustment lines for settled activityProduct cost, outside ads or overhead
PayoutSettled balance transferred to the bank on a payment scheduleProfit for orders created in the same period
ContributionSeller revenue less the variable costs assigned to the same ordersCompany-wide net income after every overhead and tax

TikTok's Spending Insights page can consolidate referral, promotion, GMV Max and affiliate costs for up to three months. It is useful for trend diagnosis, but it does not replace an order-level settlement tie-out or costs maintained outside TikTok. Use the dashboard to find a change; use the export and your cost records to prove what happened.

Read the settlement equation without reversing the signs

The four settlement buckets and the lines worth checking first.
BucketTypical report linesCommon reconciliation mistake
Net salesGross sales, gross sales refund, seller discount, seller discount refundTreating a platform-funded promotion as a seller discount
ShippingTikTok shipping, buyer-paid shipping, incentives, FBT fulfilment, return shippingNetting the buyer charge and seller cost before checking either line
FeesReferral, refund administration and affiliate-related commissionsUsing one blended percentage for charges with different bases
AdjustmentsLogistics corrections, reimbursements, policy deductions and fee correctionsDropping a later adjustment because the original order settled earlier
The four settlement buckets and the lines worth checking first.

A refund can settle in a later statement than the sale. The same is true for some shipping corrections and other adjustments. Preserve the order ID and SKU ID across periods, then calculate retained results only after the cohort has had enough time to mature.

Worked example: from a $50 sale to $7.03 of contribution

The example below uses chosen inputs to demonstrate the reconciliation. It is not a benchmark. Assume one product has $50 of gross sales, a $5 seller-funded discount and $4 of buyer-paid shipping. The seller's settlement lines include $6.20 of shipping cost, a $2.94 referral fee, a $6.75 affiliate commission and $1.58 of other programme fees. There is no adjustment in this example.

The $31.53 settlement is not the margin. After $24.50 of variable costs outside that settlement, the order leaves $7.03. Relative to $45 of net product sales, that is a 15.6% contribution margin under the chosen assumptions. If the $5 ad charge was already included in a platform line in your export or paid from the same seller balance, subtracting it again would understate the result.

Build two views instead of forcing one report to do both jobs

Use settlement date for cash reconciliation and order date for commercial performance. The cash view answers whether statements, payment IDs and bank deposits agree. The cohort view groups orders by their original sale period and follows later refunds, returns and adjustments back to those orders.

  1. Save the original export unchanged and record its date range, timezone and download date.
  2. Import Order details with identifiers stored as text and signed money fields stored as numbers.
  3. Tie each statement and payment ID to the seller balance and bank deposit before calculating profit.
  4. Add SKU product cost, fulfilment, packaging, advertising and sample cost without duplicating report deductions.
  5. Attach later refunds and adjustments to the original order cohort, then compare retained contribution by SKU and creator.
  6. Investigate any residual difference instead of hiding it in a generic fee percentage.

A weekly management view can show estimated contribution quickly, but label it provisional while returns and late adjustments are still open. For pricing or creator decisions, compare products at the same maturity point rather than giving the newest cohort an artificial advantage.

Frequently asked questions

Questions sellers ask

Where can I download the TikTok Shop settlement report?

In the US Seller Center, go to Finances, then Statements or Payouts, select Export and download the file from Export History. The Order details sheet contains SKU-level settlement lines.

Does the TikTok Shop settlement amount equal profit?

No. Settlement includes platform revenue, shipping, fees and adjustments. Final contribution also needs product cost, outside fulfilment, packaging, advertising, samples and other seller costs assigned to the same orders.

Why does TikTok Shop GMV not match my payout?

GMV, settlement and payout use different definitions and dates. Unsettled orders can remain on hold, refunds or adjustments can post later, reserves may be withheld, and a payout transfers only the settled balance covered by that payment.

What is the TikTok Shop settlement formula?

TikTok's US guide defines Total settlement amount as Net sales plus Shipping plus Fees plus Adjustments. Deductions are normally negative in the export, so add the signed values rather than subtracting them twice.

Which date should I use for TikTok Shop profit reporting?

Use settlement date to reconcile seller balance and bank cash. Use order date to evaluate a sales cohort, then attach later refunds and adjustments to the original orders. Record the export timezone before grouping dates.
